  • This painting is a collaboration between fellow Rogue Gene Collective artists Andrea Farmer and Rob Kirbyson.

Andrea applied the abstract base layer to the box canvas in a colourful mixture of oils.

The painting was then dispatched to Rob in Worcestershire for his own interpretation on how the artwork should be finished. He chose to render a rodent in intricate oils to represent 'Ergotism'.

Ergotism is the effect of long term ergot poisoning, due to the ingestion of the alkaloids produced by the Claviceps purpurea fungus which infects rye and other cereal crops. As well as seizures there can be hallucinations resembling those produced by LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide), and mental effects including psychosis. In less wealthy countries ergotism still occurs: there was an outbreak in Ethiopia in mid-2001 from contaminated barley.

Rob chose the name 'Ergot'. The painting is signed and dated by both artists. Ready to hang, no framing required.
